The Unwanted Parade (Engl.)

B"H

This year, November 10 seems to be a bad day for Jerusalem. Then, the International Gay Parade is taking place. Jews as well as Christians and Moslems are protesting against the coming event.

The parade was already scheduled to take place last August, but delayed due to the war. Another reason for the delay was that religious organizations, the municipality, politicians and other social groups went to court in order to stop the parade. Finally the Supreme Court decided in favour of the parade.

The organizers of the parade (the Open House in the shopping mall) were very pleased with the court's verdict. Everybody has the right to demonstrate and this applies to them as well, so they said.

However, their opponents do not look at the right to demonstrate. They simply see the parade as blasphemy. The event can take place anywhere in the world but not in the Holy City of Jerusalem. That's how the inhabitants think and I agree with them.

The local heads of the three religions called upon everybody to demonstrate against the parade. The police are expecting riots when the two demonstrations bump into each other in the city center. Extreme Jewish ultra - othodox groups threatened to kill members of the parade. No one knows if this is to be taken literally.

Until the last minute, people keep on trying to stop the parade. Even in the Knesset.
Winter has begun und maybe heavy rain showers will just ruin the event. This would be the easiest way.
I have not decided yet if I am going to the opponent's demonstration or simply avoid going to the city center at all. We will see......
